WHY MENTAL HEALTH FIRST RESPONSE?

Mental Health First Response enhances confidence and empowers Health Care Professionals to support, risk assess and appropriately manage or refer a mental health emergency, in line with recognised first aid guidelines

IntelliLearn developed the MHFR course at the specific request of the University of Tasmania in 2021. Since its rollout in May 2022, it has been delivered to over 2,800 students, academics and clinical staff with excellent feedback

KEY FEATURES

The Mental Health First Response is a short, sharp empowering course, which systematically works through a ‘toolbox’ of therapeutic communication skills with a focus on a Person-Centered Approach and use of Recovery Orientated Language. Key factors in delivering appropriate and safe care are also addressed such as the Mental Health Act, Duty of Care, Mental State Examination, De-escalation and the importance of self- care, coping mechanisms and effective debriefing.

The Mental Health First Response workshop provides participants a valuable opportunity to practice their toolbox proficiency through skills demonstration, in a safe and supportive space, whilst working through simulated scenarios.
